Young Parents

Becoming a parent is hard work, and it can be even harder without family or friends around to support you. You may be worried about how you will cope financially or how you will continue to study or afford childcare while looking after your baby. Family Lives is available free 24/7 if you need someone to talk to call their free and confidential helpline on 0808 800 222 (previously known as Parentline).

Family Nurse Partnership - Northamptonshire

The Family Nurses in Northamptonshire have been specifically selected because of their healthcare backgrounds and have received extra training at the beginning of the project ongoing training to develop their competencies to deliver the programme. The programme materials are licensed and only available to those clients enrolled onto the Family Nurse Partnership Programme. The programme also provides the elements of the Healthy Child Programme offer to children from birth to two.

All clients would continue to have care in the antenatal period from their General Practitioner and Midwifery team.

How can the programme benefit young teenage parents?

The Family Nurse Partnership Programme is a home visiting programme providing weekly and fortnightly visits (between one to 1 ½ hours approximately per visit), which will enable care to be flexible and to meet individual needs. The aim is to improve antenatal health, child health and development and parents’ economic self sufficiency.

Each programme visit includes structured conversations and activities to improve self efficacy, supporting clients to recognise their own strengths and goals, enable behaviour changes and building positive attachments. The Family Nurse will also be signposting the young parents to other agencies and groups who could help them with a specific issue.

Our Team Vision: Helping young parents in Northamptonshire be the best parents they would like to be.
